May 8, 2008 Monthly Meeting

4:30 p.m.  WDSC Tidbits of Goodies

Aaron Bartell - Krengel Technology Inc.

Have you been using WDSC and are looking for the little tidbits to make you even more productive? Or maybe you are looking for THEE reason to actually switch over from SEU? No matter the cause, come and see 40+ tips about what I love best in WDSC and how I customize it to best suit my needs. If you have a tip for your fellow WDSC RPG programmer please bring it with to this session and let your voice be heard!

7:30 p.m.  Making RPG and Java work in a ROIght way!

Aaron Bartell - Krengel Technology Inc.

In this session we will cover three cool and free open source tools that allow you to utilize Java from the RPG environment.

The tools are as follows:

RPG To Desktop: Allows you to run ANY program on the PC from your RPG program on the System i. This can be useful for opening up PDF documents, browsers, fax software, and any other number of applications.

RPGMail: Allows you to send email right from your RPG program without having to setup any of the email services on your System i!

RPG Chart Engine: Create graphical pie, bar and x/y charts directly from your RPG program to be used in other mediums like your website, PDF's, Excel documents, etc.

On top of having some excellent ROI to take back to your shop we will also give you a jumpstart into understanding how all the pieces fit together so you can gain insight concerning RPG and Java interoperability.

Aaron Bartell is a Senior Software Developer for Krengel Technology Inc. Aaron focuses much of his development in the area of web services on the iSeries and also Java development/integration. He enjoys being part of the strong System i community through forum participation, article writing and providing open source software on his personal website - http://mowyourlawn.com.
