Session I - 4:30 pm
Query Management - Back to the Future with SQL
Query Management may be one of the better-kept secrets on IBM i. It has been part of the operating system since version 3.0 of OS/400. Yet developers don't seem to know it exists, or what it can do for them. Query management objects give the IBM i developer the means to use the full power of SQL without having to purchase the SQL licensed product. It also provides reporting capabilities similar to those of Query for i, with some things that Query for i can't begin to do. Query Management (QM) objects can also be used with programs and commands to provide parameterized reporting and data presentation.
Audience:
Developers who need to quickly generate reports and may not want to write programs to do it, who want to enhance their ability to deliver data-centric information in their enterprise.
There is a lab handout, which hopes to introduce attendees to the following:
Learning Objectives:
1. Use CL commands to create Query Management objects
2. Use Query Manager to work with Query Management objects
3. Create commands that use Query Management objects
Once you are registered for the meeting, this handout will be sent via email to the registered email.
Speaker Bio: Vern has worked on IBM midrange systems for over 20 years, beginning with the System/38 and AS/400. At present he is a software architect at RJS Software Systems. He is degreed in both music and mathematics, which gives him a distinct approach to the art and science of programming. In his spare time he plays in a community band and sings in a pretty-good a capella choral group. He recently wrote a special report on IBM Rational Open Access: RPG Edition that was published in System iNews. Vern also serves as a SME in Database for COMMON.
