Don Bussell
Keys to being worth your Paycheck
Since the emergence of computer technology a premium has been placed on technical experience and technical knowledge. Technical specialization generally has yielded compensation often equal to or higher than their management counterparts. 90% of IT professionals chose the IT field because of their desire to achieve technical excellence in one or many technical disciplines. The typical IT Professional is very bright, highly focused, and loves the definitive nature of technical problems that often are resolved in black and white terms.
The IT world has dramatically changed for the US technical professional. Due to the Global Economy, the portability of technical solutions and communications that create virtual environments, the US IT Professional is having his/her skills devalued to rates paid to technical talent from less developed nations. Growing value is being given to team skills, collaboration skills and leadership skills. The first component to be faced by any IT Professional is whether the new IT World is one they wish to embrace and second what steps are necessary for them to grow their personal value in this new world of IT.
Don Bussell is currently the president of WebSmart-USA. Don has exchanges of ideas on IT issues with more than 100 different CIO's and IT leaders in the Chicago area annually. In addition, he facilitates over 20 rountable discussions of current IT issues, with several hundred IT Professionals each year. Don is an active leader in Chicago IT association activities for SIM and AITP, as well as conducting open monthly roundtable discussions limited to CIO's only. View Don's full biography to learn more.
